Anderson Pinho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfredo Batista in the 4th minute of play. Cruzeiro's Anderson Pinho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Wellington Pontes in the 5th minute of play. 6 minutes into the match, Cruzeiro's goal looked a bit too open when Alfredo Batista came free, but Anderson Pinho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Tibúrcio Dias had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 7th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cruzeiro's attentive Vladimir Amorim managed to snatch the ball when Frederico Sampaio made a throw-in in the 9th minute of the game. Victor Leal made in the 11th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Romário Fantini however managed to control. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfredo Batista in the 15th minute of play forced Cruzeiro's goalkeeper Anderson Pinho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Américo Abreu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Sabino Neves could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 19th minute of the match, but Anderson Pinho made a huge save. 22 minutes into the game, Taguarussu's Sabino Neves nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Anderson Pinho made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfredo Batista in the 25th minute of play forced Cruzeiro's goalkeeper Anderson Pinho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cruzeiro's Américo Abreu got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Romário Fantini could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 33rd minute of the match, but Anderson Pinho made a huge save. When Cruzeiro's Vladimir Amorim in 36 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. Dedé da Silveira guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. Cruzeiro's Américo Abreu got a good chance for a goal in the 39th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 40th minute, Américo Abreu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Américo Abreu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 42nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Anderson Pinho made a fantastic save in the 45th minute, when Sabino Neves sent off a good shot on target.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Pedrão Fontes stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When Rubens Alagoano fell near the penalty area in the 51st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Cruzeiro's protests and gave Rubens Alagoano a yellow card for diving instead. In the 52nd minute, Rubens Alagoano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 55 minutes of play, Taguarussu's Alfredo Batista made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Anderson Pinho was left in no man's land by his defense there! The throw-in from Frederico Sampaio in the 60th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Cruzeiro's Cipriano Velasco. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cipriano Velasco in the 60th minute of play forced Taguarussu's goalkeeper Dedé da Silveira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Anderson Pinho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sabino Neves, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Anderson Pinho was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. A sloppy throw-in by Gilson Sampaio in the 71st minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Cruzeiro's Américo Abreu. Taguarussu's Dedé da Silveira proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 72nd minute of the match, managed to save Taguarussu from getting a goal against them. In the 73rd minute Wellington Pontes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Anderson Pinho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Many of Cruzeiro's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Cruzeiro may have spent more time on the ball, but Taguarussu were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
