The audience was convinced that Mauro da Costa's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cido de Queiroz was relentless in the 13th minute of the game. If Zé Leme had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Betinho Sá in the 21st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Alfredo Quirino saved VPR FC from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Cucaia AD's zone, Egídio Cavalcante stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cido de Queiroz came out of the goal and Egídio Cavalcante tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 30 minutes into the match, Betinho Sá notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of VPR FC's Alfredo Quirino. Alfredo Quirino was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 35 played minutes VPR FC got a freekick which was hit by Germano Fernandes. A collision led to VPR FC getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Álvaro de Queirós hit a great ball. Cucaia AD's Rafinha Cosme couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 41st minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for VPR FC. After the first half Cucaia AD were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Mauro da Costa to strike the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Cucaia AD getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Patrick Vieira hit a great ball. After 55 played minutes VPR FC got a freekick which was hit by Álvaro de Queirós. Zé Leme struck a weak shot in the 56th minute. Alfredo Quirino didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cucaia AD. VPR FC's Alfredo Quirino proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 63rd minute of the match, managed to save VPR FC from getting a goal against them. Zé Leme sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 76th minute, Cucaia AD's Betinho Sá ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Alfredo Quirino. Alfredo Quirino yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-2. Alfredo Quirino didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Betinho Sá went, in the 79th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-3 was the resulting score. After having played for 83 minutes, Egídio Cavalcante managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. VPR FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Egídio Cavalcante was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Egídio Cavalcante took the ball and in the 86 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Cido de Queiroz. Cido de Queiroz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-3. 89 minutes into the game, Cucaia AD's Zé Leme nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Alfredo Quirino made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-4. 95 minutes into the match, VPR FC's goal looked a bit too open when Betinho Sá came free, but Alfredo Quirino reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Cucaia AD walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
