When the match clock showed 4 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Elano Catarinense sped through Misael's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Edinho Valle. The supporters of Imbiara AD booed when Misael was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sílvio Marques didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Dalmo de Toledo came up free with the goalie in the 13th minute, the Imbiara AD fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dalmo de Toledo couldn't finish the play. Sílvio Marques kicked well hit freekick during the 14th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Imbiara AD's Valério Passos got a free kick in the 17th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Rafinha Pernambucano got free with Arí Trancoso in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Misael's Edinho Valle played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dalmo de Toledo in the 22nd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dalmo de Toledo in the 30th minute of play forced Misael's goalkeeper Edinho Valle to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 35th minute Elano Catarinense shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edinho Valle saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Dalmo de Toledo in the 38th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Edinho Valle prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 42 minutes, Sílvio Marques mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Misael and the Imbiara AD players grew even worse after the yellow card. Edinho Valle didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Dalmo de Toledo went, in the 45th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nando Barbosa to make the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Dalmo de Toledo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Imbiara AD's supporters rose to their feet, but Dalmo de Toledo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Edinho Valle breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Elano Catarinense had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute.
