The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Nilson Couto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jerônimo Tande in the 3rd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vitório Pitta in the 9th minute of play forced Baxito's goalkeeper Doriva Alcântara to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Doriva Alcântara made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Felippe Branco in the 10th minute of play. In the 13th minute, one of Baxito:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Baxito. 19 minutes into the match, Baxito's goal looked a bit too open when Vitório Pitta came free, but Doriva Alcântara reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ulisses Valladares kicked well hit freekick during the 22nd minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ulisses Valladares during the 25th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 25th match minute, Baxito was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ulisses Valladares to maneuver through the defense. Doriva Alcântara made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vitório Pitta in the 26th minute of play. Nilson Couto stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jerônimo Tande's shot from short distance in the 28th minute. Mutunopolis FC were furious when Olavo Mendonça was red carded, 29 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. 29 minutes into the game, one of Mutunopolis FC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. In the 32nd minute there was a penalty for Baxito. Ulisses Valladares stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Nilson Couto. 1-1. When Ivo Velloso came up free with the goalie in the 36th minute, the Baxito fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ivo Velloso couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Baxito booed when Mutunopolis FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dionísio Lopes didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Tadeu Bueno during the 39th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Mutunopolis FC getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Tadeu Bueno hit a great ball. Jerônimo Tandes short, quick shot in the 41stth minute got Nilson Couto to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Ivo Velloso might have been able to make a better finish in the 42nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nilson Couto. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ivo Velloso ran back to his position shaking his head. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Baxito's Ulisses Valladares got a good chance for a goal in the 53rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Jerônimo Tande in the 56th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nilson Couto prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Nilson Couto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jerônimo Tande, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jerônimo Tande's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nilson Couto read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 62nd minute of play. Nilson Couto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jerônimo Tande, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. If Ivo Velloso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 67th minute the ball was on its way in behind Mutunopolis FC's goalkeeper Nilson Couto, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Vitório Pitta in the 71stth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Doriva Alcântara, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Váldson Guimarães sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 74th match minute, Mutunopolis FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tadeu Bueno to maneuver through the defense. If Vitório Pitta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tadeu Bueno received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Doriva Alcântara tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Eriberto Veiga kicked well hit freekick during the 80th minute of the match. In the 82nd minute, Vitório Pitta left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. When Baxito's Jerônimo Tande in the 92nd minute got a chance for a shot 92nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Mutunopolis FC's goalie prevented a goal. Ivo Velloso struck a weak shot in the 93rd minute. Nilson Couto didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Baxito. When the final whistle went the supporters of Mutunopolis FC were delighted that their team had defeated the much more dominant Baxito side.
