A collision led to Grêmio getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Ulisses Maia hit a great ball. In the 17th minute, Hortêncio de Amaral hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Nestor da Silva received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 19th minute. Cafu de Queirós tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cristiano Figueiredo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wilian Netto having to interfere. If Cristiano Figueiredo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Grêmio's Ulisses Maia got a free kick in the 30th minute. Nestor da Silva sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Barranceira SC booed when Grêmio was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hortêncio de Amaral didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Frédson Andrade in the 35th minute of play forced Grêmio's goalkeeper Cafu de Queirós to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 38 played minutes Barranceira SC got a freekick which was hit by Sydney Rossi. Wilian Netto acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 40th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Ulisses Maia. Wilian Netto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Valdemar Custódio in the 41st minute of play. After having played for 44 minutes, Cristiano Figueiredo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Grêmio's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristiano Figueiredo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With a little luck, Barranceira SC's Wilian Netto got control of the ball when Valdemar Custódio tried to sneak it across the goal line. Wilian Netto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Valdemar Custódio in the 48th minute of play. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Frédson Andrade made a kick off. Barranceira SC's Nestor da Silva got a good chance for a goal in the 52nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Cristiano Figueiredo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wilian Netto having to interfere. In the 63rd minute, Cristiano Figueiredo left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Grêmio fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. The supporters of Grêmio booed when Barranceira SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Frédson Andrade didn't get a good kick on the ball. Vitinho de Brito recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Frédson Andrade blasted a shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Cafu de Queirós having to make a save. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Frédson Andrade in the 75th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Cafu de Queirós prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience was convinced that Valdemar Custódio's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Wilian Netto was relentless in the 81st minute of the game. After some careless play in the Grêmio defense, Nestor da Silva kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Cafu de Queirós. The Grêmio fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Cafu de Queirós should have stopped the shot. If Valdemar Custódio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Gil Recife fell near the penalty area in the 92nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Barranceira SC's protests and gave Gil Recife a yellow card for diving instead. Gil Recife kicked well hit freekick during the 92nd minute of the match. Cafu de Queirós didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 96th minute, which inside left pole to 1-2.
