Morangaba's Paulinho Salgado got a good chance for a goal in the 8th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Erivaldo Dante got free with Claudinho Teles in the 11th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 12th minute, Cristiano Gomes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Emílio Paraíba had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Claudinho Teles showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Erivaldo Dante, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. Nestor Mattos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aleandro Mumbach having to interfere. 26 minutes into the game, Adalmo Mello threw the ball into play from the sideline. Morangaba's Durvalino Baptista quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. A sloppy throw-in by Luizinho Penha in the 35th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Morangaba's Enio Marquez. In the 36th match minute, Morangaba was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Durvalino Baptista to maneuver through the defense. Claudinho Teles took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Naldo Matos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Francisco da Rocha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 62nd minute, one of Morangaba:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Morangaba. The goalkeeper, Aleandro Mumbach, was totally fooled by Silves's Emílio Paraíba, who 64 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Erivaldo Dante sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 75 minutes into the match, Morangaba's goalkeeper Aleandro Mumbach had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nestor Mattos. A collision led to Morangaba getting a freekick after 76 minutes play. Durvalino Baptista hit a great ball. Aleandro Mumbach made an important save on a dangerous shot by Nestor Mattos in the 77th minute. After a rather tough play, Morangaba's Durvalino Baptista got a free kick in the 78th minute. After 81 minutes, Gerson Valadares mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Silves and the Morangaba players grew even worse after the yellow card.
