The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. José Paulo Abreu made an important save on a dangerous shot by Dagoberto Paraense in the 2nd minute. After 10 minutes, Leonardo Pirani mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Olimpo SS and the Mamede players grew even worse after the yellow card. Igor Messias shot the penalty kick right outside the post. Percival Alcântara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Dagoberto Paraense had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Márcio de Mendonça showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from João Adolfo Meira in the 27th minute of the match. Dagoberto Paraense fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Paulo Abreu having to interfere. In the 41stth minute of the game Percival Alcântara who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Olimpo SS's Márcio de Mendonça was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The supporters of Mamede booed when Olimpo SS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luizinho Diniz didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Dagoberto Paraense to make the kick off. João Adolfo Meira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 56 minutes into the game, Laerte Ramalho was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Olimpo SS's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Mamede the free kick. In the 57th minute, Laerte Ramalho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gualter Mangueira struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. José Paulo Abreu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Olimpo SS. Percival Alcântara received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Márcio de Mendonça tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mamede's Percival Alcântara got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 76 played minutes Mamede got a freekick which was hit by Luiz Gustavo da Costa. Gualter Mangueira recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 78th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 1-0 became the score in the 82nd minute when Dagoberto Paraense elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. 91 minutes into the match, Olimpo SS's Gualter Mangueira sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that José Paulo Abreu narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Donatello Ramalho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Percival Alcântara in the 95th minute of play forced Olimpo SS's goalkeeper Márcio de Mendonça to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Márcio de Mendonça made a fantastic save in the 97th minute, when João Adolfo Meira sent off a good shot on target. For all the effort they put into the match, the Mamede players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Olimpo SS.
