Spectators: 32 (Terracing: 25, Seating: 7, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Agostinho Oliveira took the kick off in the first half of the match. In the 4th minute the ball was on its way in behind Itaguara AD's goalkeeper Alfredinho Velloso, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. A collision led to Itaguara AD getting a freekick after 5 minutes play. Pedrinho Couto hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Itaguara AD's zone, Mané Garrincha stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alfredinho Velloso came out of the goal and Mané Garrincha tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Flávio Gomes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from João Adolfo Arósio in the 10th minute of play. After 12 minutes CR FLAMENGO's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Oswaldo Pires who took care of the corner kick. Itaguara AD's Oswaldo Pires was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Flávio Gomes in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After having played for 14 minutes, Agostinho Oliveira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. CR FLAMENGO's supporters crossed their fingers, but Agostinho Oliveira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. João Adolfo Arósio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Claudinei Duarte struck a weak shot in the 18th minute. Flávio Gomes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Itaguara AD. After 29 played minutes Itaguara AD got a freekick which was hit by Gilberto Madureira. In the 31st minute Pedrinho Couto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Flávio Gomes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Agostinho Oliveira received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Alfredinho Velloso came out and tried to block the shot, but Agostinho Oliveira slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 35th minute. 40 minutes into the match, CR FLAMENGO's goal looked a bit too open when Claudinei Duarte came free, but Flávio Gomes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Alfredinho Velloso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Agostinho Oliveira in the 43rd minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Norberto Koehler during the 46th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 46th minute, one of Itaguara AD:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Itaguara AD. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell João Adolfo Arósio to make the kick off. With a little luck, CR FLAMENGO's Flávio Gomes got control of the ball when Claudinei Duarte tried to sneak it across the goal line. The supporters of CR FLAMENGO booed when Itaguara AD was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gilberto Madureira didn't get a good kick on the ball. 66 minutes into the match, Itaguara AD's goal looked a bit too open when Mané Garrincha came free, but Alfredinho Velloso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If João Adolfo Arósio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Osvaldinho Capixaba kicked well hit freekick during the 74th minute of the match. CR FLAMENGO's Flávio Gomes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by João Adolfo Arósio in the 81st minute of play. Flávio Gomes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Adolfo Arósio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 84th minute of the match Itaguara AD got a corner. CR FLAMENGO's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Oswaldo Pires ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner went over the outstretched arms of CR FLAMENGO's goalie and right to Claudinei Duarte. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. CR FLAMENGO's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Alfredinho Velloso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Agostinho Oliveira, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Agostinho Oliveira in the 91st minute of play forced Itaguara AD's goalkeeper Alfredinho Velloso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Claudinei Duarte sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Alfredinho Velloso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Agostinho Oliveira in the 95th minute of play. Flávio Gomes was out of position in the 97 minute of play, and João Adolfo Arósio capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. João Adolfo Arósio really showed his touch with that goal: 2-2. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
