The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Sapecada's Marcelo Cordeiro got a good chance for a goal in the 3rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After having played for 7 minutes, Luís Fernando da Fonseca managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sapecada's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luís Fernando da Fonseca was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 11 minutes, Marcelo Cordeiro mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sapecada and the COTIANO F.C. players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 11th match minute, Sapecada was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marcelo Cordeiro to maneuver through the defense. COTIANO F.C.'s Célio Lopes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Júlio Tavares in the 14th minute of play. 15 minutes into the match, COTIANO F.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Luís Fernando da Fonseca came free, but Célio Lopes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 70th minute, Júlio Tavares managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sapecada's supporters rose to their feet, but Júlio Tavares was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Célio Lopes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 73rd play minutes Júlio Tavares shot 0-4, a short shot which went by Célio Lopes and just under the crossbar into goal. After having played for 77 minutes, Júlio Tavares managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tiaguinho Mineiro got free with Célio Lopes in the 96th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Sapecada played a much better game than COTIANO F.C. and deserved their victory. The COTIANO F.C. players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
