If Enio de Queirós had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 4th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 5 minutes into the match, Mares's goal looked a bit too open when Luís Fábio Dionísio came free, but Cássio Ribeiro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 12th minute of the match Tomás Damião shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Cássio Ribeiro showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Cássio Ribeiro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luís Fábio Dionísio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 14th minute, Dieguinho da Rocha hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Enio de Queirós sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 18 minutes into the game, Mário Paraíba was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Mares's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ronaldinho Soccer 97™ the free kick. Mário Paraíba kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. Luís Fábio Dionísio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 22nd minute Luís Fábio Dionísio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cássio Ribeiro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 24th play minute Josué Mazza came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Lenílson Senna. 1-0. Through an outstanding action, after 28 minutes, Lenílson Senna successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Enio de Queirós recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 30th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Enio de Queirós fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cássio Ribeiro having to interfere. Luís Fábio Dionísio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Mares's Cássio Ribeiro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luís Fábio Dionísio in the 42nd minute of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Samuca Arruda to strike the kick off in the second half. Enio de Queirós fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cássio Ribeiro having to interfere. When Valdemar Silva fell near the penalty area in the 55th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Mares's protests and gave Valdemar Silva a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Mares getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Valdemar Silva hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 60th minute, Enio de Queirós managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ronaldinho Soccer 97™'s supporters rose to their feet, but Enio de Queirós was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cássio Ribeiro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Mário Paraíba was shown his second yellow card after 61 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. After 61 played minutes Mares got a freekick which was hit by Mário Paraíba. If Enio de Queirós had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 69 played minutes, Ronaldinho Soccer 97™'s Ramón Queiroz shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Cássio Ribeiro came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Ronaldinho Soccer 97™ reached it. The supporters of Ronaldinho Soccer 97™ booed when Mares was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 69 match minutes in a wonderful position. Afonso Dracena didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience was convinced that Luís Fábio Dionísio's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cássio Ribeiro was relentless in the 72nd minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in Mares's zone, Enio de Queirós stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cássio Ribeiro came out of the goal and Enio de Queirós tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ramón Queiroz, 83 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Mares's zone, Luís Fábio Dionísio stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cássio Ribeiro came out of the goal and Luís Fábio Dionísio tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Luís Fábio Dionísio struck a weak shot in the 91st minute. Cássio Ribeiro didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ronaldinho Soccer 97™. Enio de Queirós fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cássio Ribeiro having to interfere. Enio de Queirós might have been able to make a better finish in the 95th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Cássio Ribeiro. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Enio de Queirós ran back to his position shaking his head. Cássio Ribeiro was a little too slow when Luís Fábio Dionísio got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 96th minute. The score was now 1-1.
