An unexpectedly hard shot by Gilberto da Fonseca in the 3rd minute of play forced Cabreuva's goalkeeper Marcinho Carneiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Frederico de Carvalho fell near the penalty area in the 4th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Cabreuva's protests and gave Frederico de Carvalho a yellow card for diving instead. After 4 played minutes Cabreuva got a freekick which was hit by Frederico de Carvalho. With his leg Marcelo Cosme managed to avoid a goal in the 13thth minute, when Cabreuva's Antônio Carlos Penha fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Cássio Mandrak hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. Benjamim Lara struck a weak shot in the 17th minute. Marcelo Cosme didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cabreuva. After a defensive mix-up in Cabreuva's zone, Gilberto da Fonseca stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marcinho Carneiro came out of the goal and Gilberto da Fonseca tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Romeu Cardoso received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Marcelo Cosme tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 25th minute, Bebeto Jacinto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to Cabreuva getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Bebeto Jacinto hit a great ball. With a little luck, PORTO SC's Marcelo Cosme got control of the ball when Antônio Carlos Penha tried to sneak it across the goal line. Geovani Salgado hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. Antônio Carlos Penha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcelo Cosme having to interfere. Marcelo Cosme made an important save on a dangerous shot by Antônio Carlos Penha in the 38th minute. PORTO SC's Marcelo Cosme proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 40th minute of the match, managed to save PORTO SC from getting a goal against them. Benjamim Lara, 44 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Antônio Carlos Penha's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Marcelo Cosme read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 49th minute of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Romeu Cardoso to strike the kick off in the second half. Marcelo Cosme made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Antônio Carlos Penha in the 53rd minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Romeu Cardoso managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cabreuva's supporters rose to their feet, but Romeu Cardoso was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marcelo Cosme breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Frederico de Carvalho was shown his second yellow card after 60 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. After 61 played minutes Cabreuva got a freekick which was hit by Frederico de Carvalho. A collision led to Cabreuva getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Bebeto Jacinto hit a great ball. After recieving a nice pass, PORTO SC's Cássio Mandrak tried to score from far away in the 72nd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Isaltino Pinheiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcinho Carneiro having to interfere. If Gilberto da Fonseca had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 93rd minute Antônio Carlos Penha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcelo Cosme saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 95 minutes into the match, Cabreuva's Bebeto Jacinto sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Marcelo Cosme narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 96 minutes into the match, PORTO SC's Isaltino Pinheiro sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Marcinho Carneiro narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Cabreuva were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
