An unexpectedly hard shot by Laerte Moreira in the 6th minute of play forced PORTO SC's goalkeeper Marcelo Cosme to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gilberto da Fonseca fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dadá Salgado having to interfere. Oséas Severo hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. The supporters of Japiuba SS booed when PORTO SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Geovani Salgado didn't get a good kick on the ball. 18 minutes into the match, PORTO SC's goal looked a bit too open when Laerte Moreira came free, but Marcelo Cosme reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Japiuba SS booed when PORTO SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hélder Pimenta didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 21st minute, Laerte Moreira got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Japiuba SS's Dadá Salgado proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 23rd minute of the match, managed to save Japiuba SS from getting a goal against them. After a rather tough play, Japiuba SS's José Paulo Fantini got a free kick in the 24th minute. A hard shot 29 in the game by Isaltino Pinheiro from a close distance when the talented Dadá Salgado managed to make a qualified save. Japiuba SS's players were relieved. After some fancy dribbling in the 31st minute, Gilberto da Fonseca managed to get in a good position for a shot. PORTO SC's supporters rose to their feet, but Gilberto da Fonseca was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dadá Salgado breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Gilberto da Fonseca in the 32nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dadá Salgado prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 36 minutes into the match, PORTO SC's goal looked a bit too open when André Barbosa came free, but Marcelo Cosme reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Geovani Salgado during the 37th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 37 played minutes PORTO SC got a freekick which was hit by Geovani Salgado. In the 38th minute André Barbosa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcelo Cosme saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 41 minutes into the match, PORTO SC's goal looked a bit too open when Laerte Moreira came free, but Marcelo Cosme reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, Japiuba SS's Dadá Salgado got control of the ball when Isaltino Pinheiro tried to sneak it across the goal line. After having played for 44 minutes, Isaltino Pinheiro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. PORTO SC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Isaltino Pinheiro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dadá Salgado showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hélder Pimenta in the 46th minute of the match. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Laerte Moreira to strike the kick off in the second half. Japiuba SS's Dadá Salgado played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Isaltino Pinheiro in the 58th minute of play. After 66 minutes, Cássio Mandrak mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the PORTO SC and the Japiuba SS players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 66 played minutes PORTO SC got a freekick which was hit by Cássio Mandrak. After 72 played minutes, PORTO SC's Cássio Mandrak shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Dadá Salgado came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in PORTO SC reached it. If André Barbosa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 78th minute, Laerte Moreira got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A collision led to PORTO SC getting a freekick after 80 minutes play. Geovani Salgado hit a great ball. If André Barbosa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 87 minutes, Gilberto da Fonseca managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. PORTO SC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gilberto da Fonseca was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Laerte Moreira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Marcelo Cosme tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Japiuba SS's André Barbosa got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. PORTO SC were awarded a corner in the 97th minute after Japiuba SS's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Cássio Mandrak took the corner. Geovani Salgado was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post.
