After a defensive mix-up in Maraua's zone, João Pedro Rodrigues stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Orlando Moraes came out of the goal and João Pedro Rodrigues tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Alfredão Cardozo's late challenge caught a Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alfredão Cardozo helped the player get up and apologised. In the 27th minute, Alfredão Cardozo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. João Pedro Rodrigues blasted a shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Orlando Moraes having to make a save. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Pedro Paulo Duarte got a good chance for a goal in the 31st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 38th minute, João Pedro Rodrigues got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Pedro Paulo Duarte struck a weak shot in the 45th minute. Orlando Moraes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cruzeiro Esporte Clube. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Pedro Paulo Duarte to strike the kick off in the second half. When Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Pedro Paulo Duarte in 68 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. Orlando Moraes guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. João Pedro Rodrigues received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Orlando Moraes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. During the 89th minute of the match Alfredão Cardozo completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Alfredão Cardozo a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. A collision led to Maraua getting a freekick after 89 minutes play. Alfredão Cardozo hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 93rd minute, João Pedro Rodrigues managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's supporters rose to their feet, but João Pedro Rodrigues was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Orlando Moraes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
