An unexpectedly hard shot by Cafu Maciel in the 9th minute of play forced Lopes FC's goalkeeper Wilson Quaresma to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Arlindo Diniz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 12th minute, Jean Meirelles hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Arlindo Diniz's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 13thth minute, Wilson Quaresma skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. 18 minutes into the game, Arlindo Diniz was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sport Club Corinthians's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Lopes FC the free kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Amadeu Brodel in the 24th minute of play forced Sport Club Corinthians's goalkeeper Chicão Massa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 26 minutes into the match, Sport Club Corinthians's goal looked a bit too open when Amadeu Brodel came free, but Chicão Massa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Arlindo Diniz struck a weak shot in the 27th minute. Wilson Quaresma didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sport Club Corinthians. Chicão Massa didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Amadeu Brodel went, in the 29th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. After some fancy dribbling in the 33rd minute, Cafu Maciel managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sport Club Corinthians's supporters rose to their feet, but Cafu Maciel was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Wilson Quaresma breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Sport Club Corinthians's Cafu Maciel got a good chance for a goal in the 35th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Arlindo Diniz hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 38th minute, Arlindo Diniz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sport Club Corinthians's supporters rose to their feet, but Arlindo Diniz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Wilson Quaresma breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 39 played minutes Lopes FC got a freekick which was hit by Arnaldo Recife. The supporters of Lopes FC booed when Sport Club Corinthians was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Washington Paes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Antônio Pereira to make the kick off. In the 53rdth minute of the game Arlindo Diniz who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Lopes FC's Wilson Quaresma was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Chicão Massa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Antônio Pereira, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. Arlindo Diniz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wilson Quaresma having to interfere. In the 63rd minute Antônio Pereira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Chicão Massa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Chicão Massa was a little too slow when Amadeu Brodel got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 68th minute. The score was now 1-3. 71 minutes into the match, Sport Club Corinthians's goalkeeper Chicão Massa had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Valdir Vidal. In the 72nd minute, Antônio Pereira left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Lopes FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-4. Chicão Massa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Antônio Pereira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Chicão Massa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Valdir Vidal in the 77th minute of play. After having played for 85 minutes, Cafu Maciel managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sport Club Corinthians's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cafu Maciel was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Arlindo Diniz in the 87th minute of play forced Lopes FC's goalkeeper Wilson Quaresma to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Adalberto Tasso hit a great freekick 89 minutes into the match. 94 minutes in the game, the ball went up into the seats when Sport Club Corinthians's Cafu Maciel fired away a shot that was just a little bit too high. He walked away shaking his head.
