Grêmio's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. 12 minutes into the match, Grêmio's goal looked a bit too open when Haroldo Queirós came free, but Deivid Tavares reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Deivid Tavares didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Dedê Bastos went, in the 17th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Hílton Pinheiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Reynaldo Loyola tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Adrianinho Braga had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 24th minute Dedê Bastos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Deivid Tavares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Haroldo Queirós in the 27th minute of play forced Grêmio's goalkeeper Deivid Tavares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Haroldo Queirós fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Deivid Tavares having to interfere.
