A wasted opportunity for Paranapanema. The audience was convinced that Luís Fernando Berger's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Fernandinho Vaz was relentless in the 5th minute of the game. Fernandinho Vaz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 40 minutes, Teodoro Ramalho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Paranapanema's supporters crossed their fingers, but Teodoro Ramalho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 41st minute, Dorival de Alcântara hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Bernardo Baptista hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Luís Fernando Berger in the 46th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Fernandinho Vaz saved Contentes from getting behind. Luís Fábio Borges fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fernandinho Vaz having to interfere. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Rafa Couto stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Luís Fábio Borges had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Olívio Gaspar during the 52nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Luís Fernando Berger in the 55th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Fernandinho Vaz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Sebastião Vander took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rafa Couto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Olavo Vieira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fernandinho Vaz having to interfere. Fernandinho Vaz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luís Fernando Berger in the 73rd minute of play. After a rather tough play, Paranapanema's Manfredo Maranhense got a free kick in the 74th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Contentes's zone, Manfredo Maranhense stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fernandinho Vaz came out of the goal and Manfredo Maranhense tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 80 minutes, Manfredo Maranhense managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Paranapanema's supporters crossed their fingers, but Manfredo Maranhense was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Contentes's Fernandinho Vaz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fausto de Carvalho in the 81st minute of play. Luís Fábio Borges fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fernandinho Vaz having to interfere. Luís Fernando Berger received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute.
