Samuca Eger stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nestor da Fonseca's shot from short distance in the 10th minute. In the 42nd minute of the match, Nestor da Fonseca got a very nice opportunity to score, but Samuca Eger was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 47th minute of the game. One of cruzeiro fc:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Marcelino:s goal. Luisinho Sarmento shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Vitório Berger made a kick off. Samuca Eger showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nestor da Fonseca in the 54th minute of the match. In the 57th minute the ball was on its way in behind cruzeiro fc's goalkeeper Adolfo Paranaense, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 59th match minute, cruzeiro fc was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Waldemar Cardozo to maneuver through the defense. Adolfo Paranaense made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from João Vítor Coelho in the 63rd minute of play. When Adolfo de Almeida fell near the penalty area in the 63rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. Nestor da Fonseca fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Samuca Eger having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Nestor da Fonseca in the 90th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Samuca Eger prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Kaká Gerber had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Marcelino booed when cruzeiro fc was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position.
