Cupe's Patrício Pombal got a good chance for a goal in the 7th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Vicente Gerber received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Rodrigo Aguiar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Vitinho Brito's late challenge caught a F.C. Barcelona's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Vitinho Brito helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of F.C. Barcelona booed when Cupe was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vitinho Brito didn't get a good kick on the ball. Patrício Pombal's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 16thth minute, Adhemar Simões skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. F.C. Barcelona's defense didn't have a chance, in the 22nd minute, when Sérgio Ramalho scored to the left of an out of position Adhemar Simões, making the score, 1-0. Adhemar Simões made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sérgio Ramalho in the 25th minute of play. In the 28th minute Silvério Palmeira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rodrigo Aguiar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sérgio Ramalho in the 32nd minute of play forced F.C. Barcelona's goalkeeper Adhemar Simões to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Luiz Valadares hit a great freekick 34 minutes into the match. 35 minutes into the game, Emerson Novaes cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Rodrigo Aguiar was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Silvério Palmeira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 41st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Cupe's Vitinho Brito got his second yellow card of the match in the 45th minute. The referee ordered Vitinho Brito off the ground. After 46 played minutes Cupe got a freekick which was hit by Vitinho Brito. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Patrício Pombal made a kick off. Patrício Pombal sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 56th minute, Patrício Pombal ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Adhemar Simões was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1. After having played for 60 minutes, Patrício Pombal managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cupe's supporters crossed their fingers, but Patrício Pombal was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Cupe booed when F.C. Barcelona was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cléberson Vidal didn't get a good kick on the ball. Vicente Gerber hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. Patrício Pombal received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 71st minute. Adhemar Simões tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 73 minutes into the match, F.C. Barcelona's goal looked a bit too open when Patrício Pombal came free, but Adhemar Simões reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience was convinced that Sérgio Ramalho's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Adhemar Simões was relentless in the 80th minute of the game. If Vicente Gerber had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Cupe's Rodrigo Aguiar got control of the ball when Silvério Palmeira tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 91st minute, Patrício Pombal got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Patrício Pombal in the 95th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Adhemar Simões prevented the ball from getting in the gole. F.C. Barcelona's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
