José Paulo Lira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from 傅烽国 in the 4th minute of the match. The supporters of Corinthians booed when Argola SS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vânderson Couto didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Corinthians's João Adolfo Baptista in the 7th minute got a chance for a shot 7th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. José Paulo Lira took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Adolfo Baptista, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Argola SS's José Paulo Lira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by 傅烽国 in the 24th minute of play. Corinthians's Silvinho Pena proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 26th minute of the match, managed to save Corinthians from getting a goal against them. In the 27th minute, João Adolfo Baptista left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Corinthians fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. With a couple of smart ball manuevers João Adolfo Baptista in the 30th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg José Paulo Lira saved Argola SS from getting behind. Alfredo Vides, 34 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. After 36 played minutes Argola SS got a freekick which was hit by Nilton Bueno. The audience was convinced that João Adolfo Baptista's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but José Paulo Lira was relentless in the 38th minute of the game. João Adolfo Baptista fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Paulo Lira having to interfere. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Osvaldo Severo got free with José Paulo Lira in the 59th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. João Adolfo Baptista sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 68 minutes into the game, Chico Guedes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Argola SS's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Corinthians the free kick. After a rather tough play, Argola SS's Chico Guedes got a free kick in the 69th minute. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tito Trbuk couldn't finish the play. Chico Guedes was shown his second yellow card after 84 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. Chico Guedes kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. After 88 played minutes, Corinthians's Pedrão Peixoto shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper José Paulo Lira came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Corinthians reached it. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Afonso Severo during the 88th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 88th minute, Afonso Severo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. João Adolfo Baptista received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. José Paulo Lira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
