In the 2nd minute, Severino Ramos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Danilo Ramalho hit a great freekick 9 minutes into the match. After some careless play in the Pongai defense, Osvaldinho Proença kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Rubinho Vidal. The Pongai fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Rubinho Vidal should have stopped the shot. After a defensive mix-up in Irundi's zone, Osvaldinho Garcia stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hermínio de Brito came out of the goal and Osvaldinho Garcia tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rubinho Vidal showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Osvaldinho Proença in the 21st minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Pongai's Wanderson Penha got a free kick in the 25th minute. In the 26th minute Válter Berger shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rubinho Vidal saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Irundi fans' excitement grew in the 31st match minute when Irundi's Válter Berger looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. With a little luck, Irundi's Hermínio de Brito got control of the ball when Oscar Passos tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 37th minute the ball was on its way in behind Irundi's goalkeeper Hermínio de Brito, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Pongai's Oscar Passos got a good chance for a goal in the 42nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Severino Ramos struck a weak shot in the 46th minute. Hermínio de Brito didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Pongai. Pongai's Rubinho Vidal played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Osvaldinho Proença in the 48th minute of play. The Pongai players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Irundi were winning 0-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Osvaldinho Garcia stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Osvaldinho Garcia in the 52nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Hermínio de Brito saved Irundi from getting behind. After a rather tough play, Pongai's Oscar Passos got a free kick in the 65th minute. Rubinho Vidal made a fantastic save in the 73rd minute, when Válter Berger sent off a good shot on target. Osvaldinho Garcia received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 77th minute. Hermínio de Brito tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 78 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Irundi! In the 81st minute there was a penalty for Pongai. Cássio Silva stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Hermínio de Brito. 1-2. In the 87th minute, Válter Berger got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
