The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Emanuel de Medeiros during the 4th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Emanuel de Medeiros hit a great freekick 4 minutes into the match. Emanuel de Medeiros received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 6th minute. Douglas Arósio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tião Cardozo struck a weak shot in the 10th minute. Fred Bastos didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cataguases. Fred Bastos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Elói Damião, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. 18 minutes into the match, Manaquery's goal looked a bit too open when Jano Meireles came free, but Fred Bastos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 22 minutes into the match, Cataguases's Elói Damião sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Fred Bastos narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 25th minute Gino Souza shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Douglas Arósio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gino Souza in the 28th minute of play forced Cataguases's goalkeeper Douglas Arósio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 31st minute, Elói Damião managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cataguases's supporters rose to their feet, but Elói Damião was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fred Bastos breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Cataguases's Elói Damião got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Tião Cardozo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 37 played minutes Manaquery got a freekick which was hit by Naldo Paiva. 38 minutes into the game, one of Manaquery:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The referee gave Cataguases a penalty, 39 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Rômulo Prado, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Manaquery's Fred Bastos. 0-1. Ernesto Luz hit a great freekick 48 minutes into the match. Elói Damião struck a weak shot in the 49th minute. Fred Bastos didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cataguases. After the first half Cataguases were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Gino Souza made a kick off. Gino Souza recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 53rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jano Meireles in the 55th minute of play forced Manaquery's goalkeeper Fred Bastos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Elói Damião fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fred Bastos having to interfere. Elói Damião could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 58th minute of the match, but Fred Bastos made a huge save. Fred Bastos stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Tião Cardozo's shot from short distance in the 60th minute. After a rather tough play, Manaquery's Jean Saldanha got a free kick in the 63rd minute. Tião Cardozo succeeded in the game's 66th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 0-2. In the 91st minute the ball was on its way in behind Manaquery's goalkeeper Fred Bastos, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Manaquery's Ernesto Luz got a free kick in the 94th minute. In the 95th match minute, Manaquery was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maurício Soeiro to maneuver through the defense. The Manaquery supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Cataguases's performance. The match ended with a win for Cataguases.
