In the 3rdth minute of the game William Furlan who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Soinho's Murilo Dantas was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Marcos Barreto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Zé Paulo de Godoi fell near the penalty area in the 9th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored CD Catalunya's protests and gave Zé Paulo de Godoi a yellow card for diving instead. When Zé Paulo de Godoi was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 14 minutes had been played. The supporters of CD Catalunya booed when Soinho was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mauro Zanette didn't get a good kick on the ball. 18 minutes into the match, CD Catalunya's Dudu Neiva broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. William Furlan's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Murilo Dantas read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 21st minute of play. In the 24th minute William Furlan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Murilo Dantas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If William Furlan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Marcos Barreto got free with Nelson Campidelis in the 30th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Marcos Barreto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nelson Campidelis having to interfere. CD Catalunya's Nelson Campidelis proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 38th minute of the match, managed to save CD Catalunya from getting a goal against them. In the 39th minute, William Furlan got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. William Furlan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Murilo Dantas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Lucas Moura had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When the match clock showed 45 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Lucas Moura sped through CD Catalunya's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Nelson Campidelis.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Lucas Moura to strike the kick off in the second half. Ulisses Linares blasted a shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Murilo Dantas having to make a save. Murilo Dantas made a fantastic save in the 52nd minute, when William Furlan sent off a good shot on target. If William Furlan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 58th minute, Jefferson Nóbrega hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Murilo Dantas made an important save on a dangerous shot by William Furlan in the 62nd minute. William Furlan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Marcos Barreto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nelson Campidelis having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Lucas Moura in the 79th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Nelson Campidelis saved CD Catalunya from getting behind. 87 minutes into the match, CD Catalunya's goal looked a bit too open when Marcos Barreto came free, but Nelson Campidelis reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Soinho's Luiz Paulo Teles got a free kick in the 90th minute. After a defensive mix-up in CD Catalunya's zone, Lucas Moura stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nelson Campidelis came out of the goal and Lucas Moura tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Soinho fans cheered their team off the field, for while CD Catalunya had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
