With a little luck, Saria's Hortêncio de Brito got control of the ball when Abelardo Veiga tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Saria's zone, Adalberto Alagoano stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hortêncio de Brito came out of the goal and Adalberto Alagoano tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Hernani Cearense's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Hortêncio de Brito read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 8th minute of play. In the 10th minute of the match Eduardo Alvarenga sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Waldir Barreto skillfully saved the ball. In the 11th minute, João Carlos Amaral got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Raphael de Alcântara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to Bahia getting a freekick after 16 minutes play. Abelardo Veiga hit a great ball. Waldir Barreto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leandro Bastos in the 26th minute of the match. Adalberto Alagoano could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 29th minute of the match, but Hortêncio de Brito made a huge save. In the 34th minute, Magno Cabral hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Saria's Naldo Penha in the 35th minute got a chance for a shot 35th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Bahia's goalie prevented a goal. In the 36th minute the ball was on its way in behind Bahia's goalkeeper Waldir Barreto, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 38 minutes into the game, Naldo Penha cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Waldir Barreto was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After some fancy dribbling in the 43rd minute, Raphael de Alcântara managed to get in a good position for a shot. Saria's supporters rose to their feet, but Raphael de Alcântara was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Waldir Barreto breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 46 minutes into the match, Bahia's goal looked a bit too open when Luiz Fábio Ferreira came free, but Waldir Barreto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Bahia's zone, Raphael de Alcântara stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Waldir Barreto came out of the goal and Raphael de Alcântara tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
Hernani Cearense sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Naldo Penha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Waldir Barreto having to interfere. Saria's Naldo Penha got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 66th minute Hernani Cearense shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hortêncio de Brito saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Raphael de Alcântara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With his leg Waldir Barreto managed to avoid a goal in the 68thth minute, when Saria's Naldo Penha fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 71st minute, Saria's Raphael de Alcântara dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-2. Hernani Cearense took the ball and in the 76 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Hortêncio de Brito. Hortêncio de Brito dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. The Saria fans' excitement grew in the 81st match minute when Saria's Raphael de Alcântara looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. When Naldo Penha came up free with the goalie in the 84th minute, the Saria fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Naldo Penha couldn't finish the play. José Vítor Pinho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 89 minutes into the match, Raphael de Alcântara dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Waldir Barreto, 1-4. Hernani Cearense fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hortêncio de Brito having to interfere. Adalberto Alagoano recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Bahia were awarded a corner in the 99th minute after Saria's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Baltazar Diniz took the corner.
