When the match clock showed 10 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Toninho Camargo sped through Ibirocaim's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Tomás Viana. Tomás Viana showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dedê de Sena in the 14th minute of the match. Toninho Camargo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Tomás Viana tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Dedê de Sena sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Luís Eduardo Amorim during the 17th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Ibirocaim's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Toninho Camargo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. After having played for 44 minutes, Dedê de Sena managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ilicinea's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dedê de Sena was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After the first half Ilicinea were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Dedê de Sena made the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Ilicinea booed when Ibirocaim was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luís Eduardo Amorim didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ilicinea's Toninho Camargo got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ibirocaim's Tomás Viana played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dedê de Sena in the 58th minute of play. Toninho Camargo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Tomás Viana read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 59th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Ilicinea's zone, Gilvan Esteves stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Zé Roberto Couto came out of the goal and Gilvan Esteves tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 67 minutes, Toninho Camargo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ilicinea's supporters crossed their fingers, but Toninho Camargo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 70 minutes into the game, Ibirocaim's Gilvan Esteves nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Zé Roberto Couto made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. 81 minutes in the game, Dedê de Sena fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Tomás Viana having to interfere. Hudson Mandrak sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 87th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ibirocaim's goalkeeper Tomás Viana, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Gilvan Esteves received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Zé Roberto Couto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Erik Viana came up free with the goalie in the 97th minute, the Ilicinea fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Erik Viana couldn't finish the play. When the final whistle sounded Ilicinea left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Ibirocaim.
