Chimarrao's Luís Guilherme Marquez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Carlos Eduardo Recife in the 15th minute of play. Nelsinho de Almeida charged in rather forcefully in the 15th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Nelsinho de Almeida the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Chimarrao getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Nelsinho de Almeida hit a great ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Carlos Eduardo Recife in the 20th managed to get into a good position. With a little luck, Babi's Cacá Maia got control of the ball when Ricardinho Abreu tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 27th minute, Ricardinho Abreu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 33 played minutes Babi got a freekick which was hit by Romário Cunha. Miguel Furtado was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 34th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Cláudio Dracena in the 37th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Cacá Maia prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 42nd minute, Baltazar Magalhães hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Babi's Ezequiel Santos got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 48 minutes, Cláudio Dracena mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Chimarrao and the Babi players grew even worse after the yellow card. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
