In the 18th minute Didi da Silveira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jairo Mello saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cepa's Didi da Silveira got a good chance for a goal in the 21st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of Cepa booed when Itaimbezinho was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. José Branco didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Jarbas Sá had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jairo Mello showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Didi da Silveira, who was totally free with the ball in the 99th minute. Chants of Itaimbezinho echoed around the stadium as the match drew to a close. Supporters and players were both delighted with the win, as Cepa had held the ball for most of the match.
