David Mendes's late challenge caught a Flores's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Cafu Corrêa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Betinho de Moraes having to interfere. With a little luck, Flores's Cléberson Arósio got control of the ball when Inácio Peres tried to sneak it across the goal line. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
