Sarapui's Rui Diniz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luiz Guilherme Alvarenga in the 3rd minute of play. 5 minutes into the game, Waldemar Borges was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sarapui's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Vasco Da Gama the free kick. In the 5th minute, Waldemar Borges hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Lino Tinoco recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 8th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Rui Diniz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luiz Guilherme Alvarenga, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 16th minute, Luiz Guilherme Alvarenga managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vasco Da Gama's supporters rose to their feet, but Luiz Guilherme Alvarenga was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rui Diniz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Luiz Guilherme Alvarenga had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 21stth minute of the game Luiz Guilherme Alvarenga who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Sarapui's Rui Diniz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Lino Tinoco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rui Diniz having to interfere. After 27 minutes, Paulão Ortiz mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Vasco Da Gama and the Sarapui players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Sarapui booed when Vasco Da Gama was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paulão Ortiz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Leandro Koehler received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Fabiano Mota tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Lino Tinoco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rui Diniz having to interfere. 40 minutes into the match, Sarapui's goal looked a bit too open when Luiz Guilherme Alvarenga came free, but Rui Diniz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 47 minutes of play Vasco Da Gama's Paulão Ortiz was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. After a rather tough play, Vasco Da Gama's Paulão Ortiz got a free kick in the 47th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Emerson Trigo to strike the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Leandro Koehler managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sarapui's supporters rose to their feet, but Leandro Koehler was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fabiano Mota breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Luís Fernando Trigo kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lino Tinoco in the 63rd minute of play forced Sarapui's goalkeeper Rui Diniz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Emerson Trigo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabiano Mota having to interfere. Lino Tinoco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Rui Diniz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fabiano Mota showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leandro Koehler in the 71st minute of the match. After taking down the ball on Sarapui's corner Luís Fernando Trigo fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Fabiano Mota quite easily take care of the ball. Lino Tinoco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rui Diniz having to interfere. In the 86th match minute, Vasco Da Gama was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luiz Guilherme Alvarenga to maneuver through the defense. When Leandro Koehler came up free with the goalie in the 88th minute, the Sarapui fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Leandro Koehler couldn't finish the play. In the 93rd minute, Luiz Guilherme Alvarenga got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Vasco Da Gama's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Sarapui had won, even though Vasco Da Gama had held more of the ball.
