Dedê Faria showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jean Paranaense in the 3rd minute of the match. After 10 played minutes Maracanu got a freekick which was hit by Claudinho Terra. Luís Fábio Veloso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Enio de Queirós, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jean Paranaense might have been able to make a better finish in the 15th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Dedê Faria. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jean Paranaense ran back to his position shaking his head. Enio de Queirós fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luís Fábio Veloso having to interfere. After having played for 20 minutes, Hélio Lago managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Tormentinha's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hélio Lago was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Hélio Lago fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luís Fábio Veloso having to interfere. In the 27th minute the ball was on its way in behind Maracanu's goalkeeper Luís Fábio Veloso, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Enio de Queirós received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Luís Fábio Veloso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Enio de Queirós who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 30thth minute tested the skills of Luís Fábio Veloso when he managed to save the team from getting behind. If Enio de Queirós had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 44 minutes in the game, Enio de Queirós fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Luís Fábio Veloso having to interfere.

The wind increased when Enio de Queirós made the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Maracanu's zone, Hélio Lago stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Luís Fábio Veloso came out of the goal and Hélio Lago tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 56 minutes, Ademar Antunes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Maracanu's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ademar Antunes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Jano Quintal charged in rather forcefully in the 57th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jano Quintal the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 57 played minutes Tormentinha got a freekick which was hit by Jano Quintal. Enio de Queirós spun around in front of the goal 61 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of Maracanu's goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Hélio Lago in the 65th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Luís Fábio Veloso prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Jean Paranaense sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jean Paranaense received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Dedê Faria tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 73rd minute, Hélio Lago got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Enio de Queirós might have been able to make a better finish in the 81st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Luís Fábio Veloso. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Almir Moraes charged in rather forcefully in the 91st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Almir Moraes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 90 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Maracanu! 97 minutes into the match, Maracanu's goal looked a bit too open when Enio de Queirós came free, but Luís Fábio Veloso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some careless play in the Maracanu defense, Enio de Queirós kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Luís Fábio Veloso. The Maracanu fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Luís Fábio Veloso should have stopped the shot. Tormentinha walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
