Marco Dantas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alfredinho Salles having to interfere. Alfredinho Salles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jean Quirino in the 11th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Sandrinho de Azevedo during the 12th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 12th minute, Sandrinho de Azevedo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Olívio Rezende fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gilson Amorim having to interfere. If Luís Gustavo Pinho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Olívio Rezende was the one to do the kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Januaria's goalkeeper Alfredinho Salles had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jean Quirino. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
