With a little luck, Jacaraipe AD's Germano Neves got control of the ball when Waldir Barbosa tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Rubens Nascimento fell near the penalty area in the 6th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Jacaraipe AD's protests and gave Rubens Nascimento a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Jacaraipe AD's Rubens Nascimento got a free kick in the 7th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 8th minute, Waldir Barbosa managed to get in a good position for a shot. Caru's supporters rose to their feet, but Waldir Barbosa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Germano Neves breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 11 played minutes Caru got a freekick which was hit by Edvaldo Pirani. 13 minutes into the game, Charles Veloso cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Cássio Baiano was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After a defensive mix-up in Jacaraipe AD's zone, Waldir Barbosa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Germano Neves came out of the goal and Waldir Barbosa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Waldir Barbosa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 24th minute of the match, but Germano Neves made a huge save. The audience was convinced that Ulisses Saldanha's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cássio Baiano was relentless in the 25th minute of the game. In the 31st minute, Ulisses Saldanha got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a rather tough play, Jacaraipe AD's Armandinho Quirino got a free kick in the 34th minute. Germano Neves showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luiz Fábio Peres, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Ulisses Saldanha received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Cássio Baiano tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Charles Veloso recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 42nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 44 minutes, Severino Magalhães mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Caru and the Jacaraipe AD players grew even worse after the yellow card. Severino Magalhães kicked well hit freekick during the 44th minute of the match. Waldir Barbosas short, quick shot in the 47thth minute got Germano Neves to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Luiz Fábio Peres stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Charles Veloso left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Jacaraipe AD fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. Ulisses Saldanha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cássio Baiano having to interfere. In the 57th match minute, Caru was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maurício Vidal to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 58 minutes, Ulisses Saldanha managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Jacaraipe AD's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ulisses Saldanha was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Cássio Baiano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ulisses Saldanha, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Ulisses Saldanha came up free with the goalie in the 70th minute, the Jacaraipe AD fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ulisses Saldanha couldn't finish the play. Charles Veloso scored 1-3 in the 75th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Cássio Baiano, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 84 minutes into the match, Jacaraipe AD's goal looked a bit too open when Luiz Fábio Peres came free, but Germano Neves reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Jacaraipe AD's zone, Luiz Fábio Peres stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rubens Nascimento got his second yellow card in the match during the 88th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. After a rather tough play, Jacaraipe AD's Rubens Nascimento got a free kick in the 89th minute. Armandinho Quirino was shown his second yellow card after 95 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match.
