Luís Gustavo Pinho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Cássio Baiano tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 35thth minute of the game Luiz Fábio Peres who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Januaria's Alfredinho Salles was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Alfredinho Salles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luiz Fábio Peres in the 37th minute of play. When Vágner Fernandez fell near the penalty area in the 37th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. In the 38th minute, Waldir Barbosa got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Vágner Fernandez was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 45 minutes had been played. In the 47th minute Waldir Barbosa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alfredinho Salles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Luiz Fábio Peres was the one to do the kick off. Caru's Leonardo Reis was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Alfredinho Salles in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Luiz Fábio Peres fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alfredinho Salles having to interfere. In the 74th minute, Luiz Fábio Peres got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Alfredinho Salles showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Edvaldo Pirani in the 77th minute of the match. Alfredinho Salles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luiz Fábio Peres in the 82nd minute of play. If Waldir Barbosa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alfredinho Salles didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 93rd minute, which inside left pole to 0-2.
