Jeritaco EC were furious when Fábio Toledo was red carded, 13 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. In the 13th minute, one of Jeritaco EC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Jeritaco EC. When Remo Guimarães fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Jeritaco EC's protests and gave Remo Guimarães a yellow card for diving instead. In the 23rd minute, Remo Guimarães hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Adelino Arce got free with Ediberto Duarte in the 28th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Benjamin Matorin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 34th minute, Benjamin Matorin reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Ediberto Duarte. The goal made the score 2-0. If Adelino Arce had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 40 minutes into the game, Gramados FC's Benjamin Matorin nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ediberto Duarte made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

With a couple of smart ball manuevers Benjamin Matorin in the 54th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ediberto Duarte saved Jeritaco EC from getting behind. Benjamin Matorin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ediberto Duarte having to interfere. Ediberto Duarte made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Benjamin Matorin in the 60th minute of play. Remo Guimarães hit a great freekick 61 minutes into the match. If Benjamin Matorin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Benjamin Matorin in the 64th minute of play forced Jeritaco EC's goalkeeper Ediberto Duarte to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 65th match minute, Jeritaco EC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sílvio Luiz Peres to maneuver through the defense. 66 minutes into the match, Gramados FC's Júnior da Silva broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. In a very dangerous position, a player in Jeritaco EC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 68th minute. Penalty!
