After a rather tough play, Cotia SC's Luís Pombal got a free kick in the 3rd minute. After a defensive mix-up in Gavea FC's zone, Luís Pombal stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bebeto Moreira came out of the goal and Luís Pombal tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Gavea FC's Bebeto Moreira proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 7th minute of the match, managed to save Gavea FC from getting a goal against them. Luís Pombal could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 15th minute of the match, but Bebeto Moreira made a huge save. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Severino Monteiro in the 17th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Bebeto Moreira prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 18 minutes into the game, Percy Santos cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Donato Simões was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Bebeto Moreira made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Severino Monteiro in the 23rd minute of play. 24 minutes into the match, Gavea FC's goalkeeper Bebeto Moreira had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Luís Pombal. After a rather tough play, Gavea FC's Zeca Mello got a free kick in the 24th minute. After 26 played minutes, Cotia SC's Zé Pedro Mattos shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Bebeto Moreira came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Cotia SC reached it. Donato Simões showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Waldemar Quintal, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. 33 minutes into the game, Gavea FC's Percy Santos nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Donato Simões made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. Waldemar Quintal sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Percy Santos in the 46th minute of play forced Cotia SC's goalkeeper Donato Simões to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-3.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Severino Monteiro to make the kick off. Severino Monteiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Bebeto Moreira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Waldemar Quintal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Donato Simões having to interfere. Luís Pombal sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 72nd minute of the match Adolfo Arantes sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Bebeto Moreira skillfully saved the ball. Severino Monteiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 74th minute. Bebeto Moreira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Donato Simões made an important save on a dangerous shot by Waldemar Quintal in the 86th minute. Gavea FC's Bebeto Moreira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Severino Monteiro in the 97th minute of play. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Gavea FC walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
