Reynaldo Lucas's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ramón Catarinense read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 16th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Freitas's zone, Antônio Carlos Matos stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ramón Catarinense came out of the goal and Antônio Carlos Matos tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Dênis Albuquerque received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Tiago Gaúcho tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Reynaldo Lucas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Diogo AD's Tiago Gaúcho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Juvenal de Barros in the 28th minute of play. Tiago Gaúcho showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Juvenal de Barros, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. Guilherme Fernandes kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. In the 33rd minute, Diogo AD's Waldemar Pombal ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Ramón Catarinense. Ramón Catarinense yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Waldemar Pombal managed to get in a good position for a shot. Diogo AD's supporters rose to their feet, but Waldemar Pombal was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ramón Catarinense breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Reynaldo Lucas, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 42 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Ramón Catarinense was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Ramón Catarinense showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Waldemar Pombal, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Juvenal de Barros made the kick off in the second half. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Reynaldo Lucas during the 54th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 54th match minute, Diogo AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Reynaldo Lucas to maneuver through the defense. Ramón Catarinense took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Waldemar Pombal, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 61 minutes into the match, Diogo AD's Reynaldo Lucas sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ramón Catarinense narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After having played for 61 minutes, Waldemar Pombal managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Diogo AD's supporters crossed their fingers, but Waldemar Pombal was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Freitas's Guilherme Fernandes got a free kick in the 62nd minute. In the 69th match minute, Diogo AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Matheus Moraes to maneuver through the defense. Antônio Carlos Matos fired away a difficult shot at goal in the 72nd minute. He almost succeeded, but the ball went over. It was a very nice shot. When Juvenal de Barros came up free with the goalie in the 78th minute, the Freitas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Juvenal de Barros couldn't finish the play. If Dênis Albuquerque had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Reynaldo Lucas couldn't finish the play. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Diogo AD fully deserved thier win.
