In the 11th minute Ricardinho Santana shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Doni Mazza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Canjica's Ronaldinho Vieira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Felippe Marquez in the 14th minute of play. André Luiz Meirelles struck a weak shot in the 15th minute. Ronaldinho Vieira didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Atlético Carioca. After 17 played minutes Atlético Carioca got a freekick which was hit by Nilson Saldanha. Doni Mazza made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ricardinho Santana in the 20th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ronaldinho Albuquerque in the 26th minute of play forced Atlético Carioca's goalkeeper Doni Mazza to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Atlético Carioca getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Felippe Marquez hit a great ball. In the 31st minute, Felippe Marquez got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 32nd minute, Germano Ramos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Felippe Marquez sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If André Luiz Meirelles had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and André Luiz Meirelles made a kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Atlético Carioca's zone, Gerson Simão stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Doni Mazza came out of the goal and Gerson Simão tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The crowd rose to their feet as Germano Ramos kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Doni Mazza. That made the score 0-2 in the 53 minute of play. Gerson Simão scored 0-3 in the 56th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Doni Mazza, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. With a couple of smart ball manuevers André Luiz Meirelles in the 61st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ronaldinho Vieira saved Canjica from getting behind. A collision led to Atlético Carioca getting a freekick after 65 minutes play. Felippe Marquez hit a great ball. In the 70th minute, Gerson Simão hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Nilson Saldanha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Ronaldinho Vieira took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from André Luiz Meirelles, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling André Luiz Meirelles in the 93rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ronaldinho Vieira prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Germano Ramos was shown his second yellow card after 93 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. After 94 played minutes Canjica got a freekick which was hit by Germano Ramos. After 96 minutes, Juan Leite mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Canjica and the Atlético Carioca players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 95th minute, one of Canjica:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Canjica. Raí Mandrak shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Canjica had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
