Delfim Saldanha started the match with the kick off. Taquaperi's Delfim Saldanha got a good chance for a goal in the 5th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Vivaldo de Azevedo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Marcelinho Mattos read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 25th minute of play. With a little luck, SHAKHTAR DONETSK's Rudolf Middel got control of the ball when Humberto Novaes tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Vivaldo de Azevedo came up free with the goalie in the 33rd minute, the SHAKHTAR DONETSK fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Vivaldo de Azevedo couldn't finish the play. Júlio Maia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Taquaperi's Marcelinho Mattos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vivaldo de Azevedo in the 45th minute of play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Pedrão Monteiro stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Delfim Saldanha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rudolf Middel having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Delfim Saldanha in the 59th minute of play forced SHAKHTAR DONETSK's goalkeeper Rudolf Middel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 63rd minute, Delfim Saldanha got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Delfim Saldanha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rudolf Middel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Humberto Novaes, who was totally free with the ball in the 68th minute. SHAKHTAR DONETSK's Júlio Maia got a good chance for a goal in the 74th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Delfim Saldanha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rudolf Middel having to interfere. After having played for 82 minutes, Humberto Novaes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Taquaperi's supporters crossed their fingers, but Humberto Novaes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Taquaperi's Edmundo da Silveira got a free kick in the 83rd minute. Humberto Novaes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The SHAKHTAR DONETSK players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented Taquaperi from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
