Edinho Tinoco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. Romeu Sarmento tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 5th minute the ball was on its way in behind Morungava's goalkeeper Romeu Sarmento, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Edinho Tinoco during the 14th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 14 played minutes Campolide got a freekick which was hit by Edinho Tinoco. 17 minutes into the match, Campolide's goalkeeper Nando de Amaral had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Renatinho Baptista. In the 18th minute Luís Fabiano de Brito shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nando de Amaral saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Romeu Sarmento took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edinho Tinoco, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 33rd minute, Erivaldo Pernambucano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 34 minutes, Umberto Marquez managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Campolide's supporters crossed their fingers, but Umberto Marquez was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Renatinho Baptista sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nando de Amaral didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Morungava. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Luís Fabiano de Brito to make the kick off. In the 51st match minute, Campolide was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by José Maria Barbosa to maneuver through the defense. Nando de Amaral showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Renatinho Baptista in the 52nd minute of the match. The supporters of Campolide booed when Morungava was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Filipe Batista didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edinho Tinoco in the 64th minute of play forced Morungava's goalkeeper Romeu Sarmento to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Morungava's Romeu Sarmento played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edinho Tinoco in the 65th minute of play. Everyone was convinced a goal was close when Campolide's Edinho Tinoco in the 67th minute lifted the ball towards the upper right corner, but Romeu Sarmento was perfectly placed and prevented a goal for Morungava through an amazing save. Gilberto Brito's late challenge caught a Campolide's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gilberto Brito helped the player get up and apologised. In the 78th match minute, Morungava was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gilberto Brito to maneuver through the defense. Jailson Dante hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match. Morungava's Romeu Sarmento proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 84th minute of the match, managed to save Morungava from getting a goal against them. After some fancy dribbling in the 89th minute, Edinho Tinoco managed to get in a good position for a shot. Campolide's supporters rose to their feet, but Edinho Tinoco was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Romeu Sarmento breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Romeu Sarmento made a fantastic save in the 90th minute, when Umberto Marquez sent off a good shot on target. Campolide's Edinho Tinoco got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 95th minute, Fernando Palmeira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
