The supporters of Minas FC booed when Guveia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wellington Vieira didn't get a good kick on the ball. Augusto Macedo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dagoberto Mota read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 12th minute of play. The referee felt a red card was in order, 16 minutes into the game, when Nando Nascimento put in a rough tackle. An unexpectedly hard shot by Geraldo Leão in the 17th minute of play forced Guveia's goalkeeper Dagoberto Mota to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 68th minute, Clemente Eger managed to get in a good position for a shot. Guveia's supporters rose to their feet, but Clemente Eger was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Aloísio Trevisan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When the match had gone on for 73 minutes, Walmir Trevisan took a quick shot and it went in 0-1 without a chance for Dagoberto Mota to make any attempt to save it. Aloísio Trevisan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dino de Mendonça in the 93rd minute of play. Aloísio Trevisan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Clemente Eger in the 94th minute of the match. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Guveia lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
