But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Arí Britto couldn't finish the play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.
Sebastião Maciel recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 56th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ademir Siqueira made a fantastic save in the 62nd minute, when José Augusto Vianna sent off a good shot on target. Ademir Siqueira made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arí Britto in the 63rd minute of play. Sebastião Maciel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Lino Aguiar blasted a shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jefferson Borges having to make a save. The Cruz Azul. fans cheered their team off the field, for while Lavagem had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
