Sílvio Luiz Toledo who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 9thth minute tested the skills of Carlinhos Correia when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Goias's Carlinhos Correia played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Teodoro Coelho in the 22nd minute of play. In the 23rd match minute, Sodre SC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Arnaldo Fontes to maneuver through the defense. Edvaldo Veiga came out of the goal in the 25th minute to try and stop a shot by Goias's Dário Albuquerque. But to his dismay, Dário Albuquerque quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. 29 minutes into the game, one of Goias:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Sílvio Luiz Toledo was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 35th minute. Sodre SC's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Sílvio Luiz Toledo struck a weak shot in the 38th minute. Carlinhos Correia didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sodre SC. Carlinhos Correia had great luck who in the 43rdth minute grab hold of the ball when Teodoro Coelho from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. Andrézinho da Costa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Carlinhos Correia tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Simão Ribeiro hit a great freekick 48 minutes into the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Teodoro Coelho to make the kick off. 54 minutes into the match, Sodre SC's goalkeeper Edvaldo Veiga had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Amauri da Cunha. When Amauri da Cunha came up free with the goalie in the 58th minute, the Goias fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Amauri da Cunha couldn't finish the play. Amauri da Cunha struck a weak shot in the 61st minute. Edvaldo Veiga didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Goias. After a defensive mix-up in Sodre SC's zone, Dário Albuquerque stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Edvaldo Veiga came out of the goal and Dário Albuquerque tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 74 played minutes, Goias's Simão Ribeiro shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Edvaldo Veiga came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Goias reached it. After some fancy dribbling in the 77th minute, Amauri da Cunha managed to get in a good position for a shot. Goias's supporters rose to their feet, but Amauri da Cunha was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Edvaldo Veiga breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a rather tough play, Sodre SC's Carlos Fernando Fonseca got a free kick in the 78th minute. Serginho Messias charged in rather forcefully in the 86th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Serginho Messias the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After recieving a nice pass, Sodre SC's Arnaldo Fontes tried to score from far away in the 92nd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. The Sodre SC supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Goias's performance. The match ended with a win for Goias.
