An unexpectedly hard shot by Osvaldo Veiga in the 7th minute of play forced Japiuba SS's goalkeeper Mauro Mumbach to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Zézinho Munhoz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mauro Mumbach having to interfere. The supporters of Realeza SS booed when Japiuba SS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edmundo Simões didn't get a good kick on the ball. 18 minutes into the game, Realeza SS's Osvaldo Veiga nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Mauro Mumbach made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Oswaldo Linhares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Bebeto Moura showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alfredo Nóbrega in the 27th minute of the match. Oswaldo Linhares could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 32nd minute of the match, but Bebeto Moura made a huge save. In the 32nd minute, Luís Guilherme Couto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Bebeto Moura took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alfredo Nóbrega, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Japiuba SS's zone, Osvaldo Veiga stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mauro Mumbach came out of the goal and Osvaldo Veiga tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Mauro Mumbach made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zézinho Munhoz in the 38th minute of play. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Zézinho Munhoz to strike the kick off in the second half. The Realeza SS fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3.
