When the match had gone on for 3 minutes, Ezequiel Garcia took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Alfredão Romero to make any attempt to save it. 7 minutes into the match, Pedrão Leme dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Alfredão Romero, 2-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aílton Baiano in the 12th minute of play forced Maracani's goalkeeper Nilton Santos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Romeu de Castro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 13th minute of the match, but Alfredão Romero made a huge save. Alfredão Romero made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pedrão Leme in the 14th minute of play. When the match had gone on for 17 minutes, Pedrão Leme took a quick shot and it went in 3-0 without a chance for Alfredão Romero to make any attempt to save it. Moquenho's Alfredão Romero proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 21st minute of the match, managed to save Moquenho from getting a goal against them. The supporters of Moquenho booed when Maracani was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Romeu de Castro didn't get a good kick on the ball. Pedrão Leme received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Alfredão Romero came out and tried to block the shot, but Pedrão Leme slotted it home off the left post making it 4-0 in the 34th minute. In the 38thth minute of the game Pedrão Leme who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Moquenho's Alfredão Romero was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 41st minute Pedrão Leme shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alfredão Romero saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Moquenho's Alfredão Romero played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pedrão Leme in the 43rd minute of play. After 44 minutes of play, Maracani's Romeu de Castro made it 5-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Alfredão Romero was left in no man's land by his defense there! If Pedrão Leme had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 5-0.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Erasmo Ramalho made a kick off. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Pedrão Leme in the 51st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Alfredão Romero prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 53 minutes of play, Maracani's Pedrão Leme made it 6-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Alfredão Romero was left in no man's land by his defense there! When Pedrão Leme came up free with the goalie in the 56th minute, the Maracani fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Pedrão Leme couldn't finish the play. Romeu de Castro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 57th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 58th minute Pedrão Leme shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alfredão Romero saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 63rd match minute, Maracani was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ezequiel Garcia to maneuver through the defense. 65 minutes into the game, Maracani's Romeu de Castro nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Alfredão Romero made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 8-0. Alfredão Romero showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Júlio Gomes in the 70th minute of the match. If Romeu de Castro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Pedrão Leme received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 74th minute. Alfredão Romero tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 76th minute, Romeu de Castro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Moquenho's Alfredão Romero played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pedrão Leme in the 78th minute of play. Alfredão Romero showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pedrão Leme in the 81st minute of the match. Alfredão Romero took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Romeu de Castro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 84th minute, Pedrão Leme managed to get in a good position for a shot. Maracani's supporters rose to their feet, but Pedrão Leme was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Alfredão Romero breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Romeu de Castro might have been able to make a better finish in the 88th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Alfredão Romero. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Romeu de Castro ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 91st minute, Pedrão Leme left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Maracani fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 9-0. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Pedrão Leme in the 96th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Alfredão Romero prevented the ball from getting in the gole.
