The audience was convinced that João Paulo Cardoso's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Aníbal Rezende was relentless in the 13th minute of the game. Geovanni Catarinense didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 35th minute, which inside left pole to 1-1. Aníbal Rezende showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from João Paulo Cardoso in the 43rd minute of the match. Vicente Pirani received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Aníbal Rezende tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Geovanni Catarinense made a fantastic save in the 48th minute, when David Diniz sent off a good shot on target. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Nilton Hermes struck a weak shot in the 52nd minute. Aníbal Rezende didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Iuiu. After 53 played minutes F.C Laranja Mecânica got a freekick which was hit by José Pedro Paranaense. Geovanni Catarinense showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from David Diniz, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. Geovanni Catarinense showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ademir Magalhães in the 70th minute of the match. In the 73rd minute, João Paulo Cardoso left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Iuiu fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-3. Válter Baiano hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. Aníbal Rezende showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Márcio Neves in the 80th minute of the match. 81 minutes into the match, Iuiu's goal looked a bit too open when Ademir Magalhães came free, but Geovanni Catarinense reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of F.C Laranja Mecânica booed when Iuiu was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nilton Hermes didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Ademir Magalhães had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some careless play in the F.C Laranja Mecânica defense, João Paulo Cardoso kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Aníbal Rezende. The F.C Laranja Mecânica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Aníbal Rezende should have stopped the shot.
