After 2 played minutes São Caetano FC got a freekick which was hit by Nildo Maciel. Claudinei Castro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 4th minute of the match, but Osmar Trigo made a huge save. Claudinei Castro's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Osmar Trigo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 7th minute of play. 13 minutes into the match, São Caetano FC's goal looked a bit too open when Ricardo Jacinto came free, but Osmar Trigo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Claudinei Castro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Osmar Trigo having to make a save. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Cláudio Quintal during the 22nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to São Caetano FC getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Cláudio Quintal hit a great ball. With a little luck, São Caetano FC's Osmar Trigo got control of the ball when Claudinei Castro tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Ricardo Jacinto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Baldim's Silvinho de Mendonça played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Naldo Leme in the 27th minute of play. If Ricardo Jacinto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Maicon Melo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Maicon Melo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Silvinho de Mendonça didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Naldo Leme went, in the 43rd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Maicon Melo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Maicon Melo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, Naldo Leme had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Silvinho de Mendonça. Baldim's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Naldo Leme was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. Silvinho de Mendonça made a fantastic save in the 60th minute, when Naldo Leme sent off a good shot on target. Silvinho de Mendonça came out of the goal in the 61st minute to try and stop a shot by São Caetano FC's Naldo Leme. But to his dismay, Naldo Leme quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. If Maicon Melo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Naldo Leme blasted a shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Silvinho de Mendonça having to make a save. In the 69th minute, Maicon Melo reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Silvinho de Mendonça. The goal made the score 0-4. Silvinho de Mendonça took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Maicon Melo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Maicon Melo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thomás Romero hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. In the 85th minute, Ricardo Jacinto got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Osmar Trigo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Claudinei Castro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Naldo Leme succeeded in the game's 92nd minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 0-5. Osmar Trigo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Claudinei Castro, who was totally free with the ball in the 97th minute. The São Caetano FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing São Caetano FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
