The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The supporters of Flamengo. booed when Red Bull F.S.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wilson Valle didn't get a good kick on the ball. Vito Mandrak sent away a hard shot on goal in the 5th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Antoni Baños scored 0-1 in the 7th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Fred Zonta, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Red Bull F.S.C.'s Oséias Brodel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 12th minute of the match, managed to save Red Bull F.S.C. from getting a goal against them. Oséias Brodel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luiz Eduardo Paiva, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Mauro Pirani fell near the penalty area in the 17th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Flamengo.'s protests and gave Mauro Pirani a yellow card for diving instead. In the 17th minute, Mauro Pirani hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Red Bull F.S.C.'s Waldir Mota in the 18th minute got a chance for a shot 18th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Flamengo.'s goalie prevented a goal. Fred Zonta showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Waldir Mota in the 21st minute of the match. But to his dismay, Antoni Baños quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. After 34 minutes, Waldir Mota made it 0-3 with a short kick to the right side. Flamengo.'s Fred Zonta tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Flamengo.'s Patricio Tuste got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Red Bull F.S.C.'s Oséias Brodel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luiz Eduardo Paiva in the 41st minute of play. In the 44th minute Waldir Mota shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fred Zonta saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 46 minutes into the game, Antoni Baños cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-4. Fred Zonta was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-4 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Waldir Mota was the one to do the kick off. Red Bull F.S.C.'s Waldir Mota got a good chance for a goal in the 51st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 60 minutes into the match, Flamengo.'s goal looked a bit too open when Waldir Mota came free, but Fred Zonta reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Vito Mandrak had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 65th match minute, Red Bull F.S.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Allan Nogueira to maneuver through the defense. Red Bull F.S.C.'s Oséias Brodel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luiz Eduardo Paiva in the 66th minute of play. In the 69th minute, Vito Mandrak got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Luiz Eduardo Paiva kicked well hit freekick during the 72nd minute of the match. Antoni Baños sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 75th minute Waldir Mota shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fred Zonta saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sandrinho da Costa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fred Zonta having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Antoni Baños's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Fred Zonta was relentless in the 78th minute of the game. Vito Mandrak charged in rather forcefully in the 79th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Vito Mandrak the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 79 played minutes Flamengo. got a freekick which was hit by Vito Mandrak. In the 80th minute the ball was on its way in behind Flamengo.'s goalkeeper Fred Zonta, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 81 minutes into the game, Red Bull F.S.C.'s Allan Nogueira nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Fred Zonta made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-5. An unexpectedly hard shot by Waldir Mota in the 86th minute of play forced Flamengo.'s goalkeeper Fred Zonta to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match had gone on for 88 minutes, Allan Nogueira took a quick shot and it went in 0-6 without a chance for Fred Zonta to make any attempt to save it. With an all-out effort, Red Bull F.S.C.'s Fred Zonta threw himself towards the right post 93 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Waldir Mota, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 94th minute, Flamengo.'s goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Antoni Baños fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. 96 minutes into the match, Flamengo.'s goalkeeper Fred Zonta had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Waldir Mota. 97 minutes in the game, the ball went up into the seats when Red Bull F.S.C.'s Waldir Mota fired away a shot that was just a little bit too high. He walked away shaking his head. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Red Bull F.S.C. walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
