After a defensive mix-up in Academia do Palestra's zone, Reinaldo da Rocha stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mauro Freire came out of the goal and Reinaldo da Rocha tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 4 minutes into the match, Academia do Palestra's goalkeeper Mauro Freire had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jaime Sampaio. The audience was convinced that Reinaldo da Rocha's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Mauro Freire was relentless in the 7th minute of the game. Perivaldo Miranda showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-2. Although Japomirim had been in control for most of the match, Academia do Palestra still came away with the win.
