The audience thought a goal was coming when Gugu Souza got free with Dudu da Cunha in the 11th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 13th minute, Gugu Souza hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dé Barros hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. Luiz Fábio Trevisan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 19th minute. Lúcio Borges tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the match clock showed 22 minutes, the score became 0-2 when Luiz Fábio Trevisan sped through Pennapolis FC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Lúcio Borges. Luiz Fábio Trevisan's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lúcio Borges read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 35th minute of play. Cícero Meirelles might have been able to make a better finish in the 41st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Lúcio Borges. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Cícero Meirelles ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 41st minute Cícero Meirelles shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lúcio Borges saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luiz Fábio Trevisan in the 47th minute of play forced Pennapolis FC's goalkeeper Lúcio Borges to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Luiz Fábio Trevisan stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Pennapolis FC booed when Itaiba was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wesley Proença didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gugu Souza fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dudu da Cunha having to interfere. In the 86th minute of the match, Cícero Meirelles got a very nice opportunity to score, but Lúcio Borges was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Gugu Souza received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Dudu da Cunha tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Cícero Meirelles had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Cícero Meirelles struck a weak shot in the 97th minute. Lúcio Borges didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Itaiba. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Itaiba eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
