With a little luck, Bahia's Fiori Coutinho got control of the ball when Emílio Proença tried to sneak it across the goal line. Zé Paulo Sá sent away a hard shot on goal in the 10th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 13th minute, Jânio Vander got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Zé Paulo Sá blasted a shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rubens Borges having to make a save. After 21 played minutes Petrolandia got a freekick which was hit by Cristiano Paes. After recieving a nice pass, Bahia's João Augusto Godoi tried to score from far away in the 21st minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Rubens Borges didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jânio Vander went, in the 24th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. In the 30th minute the ball was on its way in behind Bahia's goalkeeper Fiori Coutinho, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Hudson Meira during the 32nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 31 minutes into the game, one of Petrolandia:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. João Augusto Godoi did an outstanding performance 34 minutes into the match, when he by himself got past the opposing team's defense and with a quick scored 0-2 to the right of an irritated Rubens Borges in the goal. Emílio Proença might have been able to make a better finish in the 38th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Fiori Coutinho. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Emílio Proença ran back to his position shaking his head. Wilian Abraão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fiori Coutinho having to interfere. Petrolandia's Rafinha Barros suffered a concussion in the 43rd minute, after a hard challenge, and had to leave the field. Álvaro Coutinho's late challenge caught a Petrolandia's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Álvaro Coutinho helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Petrolandia booed when Bahia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Álvaro Coutinho didn't get a good kick on the ball. Petrolandia's Abelardo Guedes couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 45th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Bahia. If Jânio Vander had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half Bahia were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The wind increased when Emílio Proença made the kick off in the second half. Bahia's Fiori Coutinho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Emílio Proença in the 52nd minute of play. After having played for 53 minutes, Wilian Abraão managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Petrolandia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Wilian Abraão was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. During the 57th minute of the match Álvaro Coutinho completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Álvaro Coutinho a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Álvaro Coutinho kicked well hit freekick during the 58th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 59th minute, Abelardo Guedes managed to get in a good position for a shot. Petrolandia's supporters rose to their feet, but Abelardo Guedes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fiori Coutinho breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Cristiano Paes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fiori Coutinho having to interfere. Bahia were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Petrolandia's much stronger midfield.
