Luís Martins received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 2nd minute. Filipe Furtado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 4 minutes into the match, Minas SC's goalkeeper Filipe Furtado had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Afonsinho Vasconcelos. Túlio Queiroz's late challenge caught a Sucuba AD's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Túlio Queiroz helped the player get up and apologised. In the 11th match minute, Minas SC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Túlio Queiroz to maneuver through the defense. Caetano Arósio kicked well hit freekick during the 13th minute of the match. In the 19thth minute of the game Américo Cordeiro who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Sucuba AD's Horácio Neto was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Filipe Furtado was a little too slow when Luís Martins got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 26th minute. The score was now 1-0. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Fernando Fonseca during the 29th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 32 minutes into the game, Kléber Senna was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sucuba AD's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Minas SC the free kick. Kléber Senna hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. After having played for 33 minutes, Abel Mumbach managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Minas SC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Abel Mumbach was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 39th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sucuba AD's goalkeeper Horácio Neto, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Filipe Furtado took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nildo Arruda, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Adelino Queirós kicked well hit freekick during the 51st minute of the match. After having played for 52 minutes, Afonsinho Vasconcelos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sucuba AD's supporters crossed their fingers, but Afonsinho Vasconcelos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Túlio Queiroz was shown his second yellow card after 53 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. A collision led to Minas SC getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Túlio Queiroz hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Sucuba AD's zone, Américo Cordeiro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Horácio Neto came out of the goal and Américo Cordeiro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Américo Cordeiros short, quick shot in the 60thth minute got Horácio Neto to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Américo Cordeiro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 65th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Américo Cordeiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Horácio Neto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Minas SC's Américo Cordeiro got a good chance for a goal in the 74th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Minas SC's Abel Mumbach got a good chance for a goal in the 76th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 77th minute, Nildo Arruda hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gildo Cardozo, 78 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Sucuba AD's Horácio Neto proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 83rd minute of the match, managed to save Sucuba AD from getting a goal against them. Laerte Vale's late challenge caught a Minas SC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Laerte Vale helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Sucuba AD's Laerte Vale got a free kick in the 92nd minute. In the 94th minute of the match, Américo Cordeiro got a very nice opportunity to score, but Horácio Neto was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Minas SC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
